La conosciuta Death Valley è un luogo estremo (56,7 °C misurati il 10 luglio 1913 a Greenland Ranch), ai limiti della vita che sembra non esserci eppure c’è e si manifesta con apparizioni fugaci, panorami grandiosi, aperti che si confondono e si perdono con il cielo, silenzi assoluti rotti dal vento, colori e contrasti seducenti disseminati sulle aride ragnatele di colline di Zabriskie Point o sulle badlands di artiste drive o Twenty Mule Canyon, accecanti riflessi di Bad Water ed incredibili ed oniriche fioriture, senza dimenticare le dune di Stovepipe modellate dal vento ed il marmoreo canyon di Mosaic. Sentimenti contrastanti possono cogliere il visitatore, ma predomina la seduzione ed il fascino di questo “magico inferno”. Questa è una zona deserta estrema però il sud-ovest ha molte zone aride che potrebbero essere destinate a diventare deserto e mantenere comunque un fascino diabolico per le grafie ed i colori che mostrano.
A braccetto con il deserto vanno i canyon omni presenti ma, c’è uno “slot canyon” che è straordinario, pareti di arenaria levigate dalla fantasia dell’acqua e del vento con la luce che a mezzogiorno riesce a passare in questa stretta fessura regalandoci visioni magiche; a seconda della intensità e dell’inclinazione dei raggi del sole il canyon assume colorazioni diverse e cangianti dal giallo ocra, al rosso fino al viola in un alternarsi di scenari che ci lasciano come quando ci si sveglia dopo aver fatto un bel sogno, si vorrebbe riprendere il sonno per continuare a sognare e rivivere “l’incantata atmosfera” dell’Antelope Canyon. Non riuscendoci si chiudono gli occhi per recuperare le ultime sensazioni prima che queste si dissolvano come nebbia al sole.
Nelle immagini della galleria potete vedere il Sunset Crater Volcano dove gli alberi che stanno ripopolando le sue pendici sembrano quasi un esercito di soldati che assalta la cima, oppure la sabbia rosa di Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, ed ancora il Bright Angel Canyon o la vista dal Goosneck Overlook dove il Sulphur Creek ha scavato un profondo canyon a collo d’oca. Mixed feelings can capture the visitor, but predominates the seduction and charm of this 'magic hell.' This is an extreme desert area however the southwest has many arid areas that could be destined to become desert and still maintain a devilish charm and its colours.
Arm in arm with the desert canyons are omni present, but there is a 'slot canyon' that is extraordinary, sandstone walls smoothed from the imagination of water and wind with the light at midday gets through this narrow slit giving magical visions; depending on the intensity and the inclination of the sun's rays the canyon takes on different colours and iridescent from ocher yellow to red to purple in a succession of scenes that leave us like when were woken up after a good dream, you would want resume sleeping and dreaming and revive 'the magical atmosphere' of Antelope Canyon. Failing this you close your eyes to retrieve the latest sensations before they dissolve like fog in the sun.
In the gallery you can see the Sunset Crater Volcano where the trees are repopulating its slopes seems almost like an army of soldiers assaulting the summit, or the pink sands of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, and even the Bright Angel Canyon or view from Goosneck Overlook where the Sulphur Creek has carved a deep canyon gooseneck.
