Castelli - Castles

La Francia ha moltissimi castelli, i più conosciuti sono quelli del bacino della Loira ma, anche in Bretagna ci sono parecchi castelli magari meno frequentati non per questo meno affascinanti. Noi ne abbiamo visitati alcuni.

Bienassis che significa ben piazzato e protetto. Costruito in arenaria rosa è circondato da un fossato e sulla parte posteriore c’è un bel giardino alla francese. Fort La Latte è un bellissimo castello del ‘200 con doppio ponte levatoio situato proprio su una falesia a picco sull’oceano. Venne trasformato in fortezza nel ‘600 per difendere le coste. Il castello-fortezza permetteva facilmente di dominare l’area circostante ed era dotato di formidabili, quanto inespugnabili, difese quali, ad esempio, una fonderia autonoma per la costruzione di palle di cannone. Il castello di Hunaudaye fu costruito nel 1220 si notano le quattro torri sugli angoli della costruzione circondato da un grande fossato e un ponte levatoio per l’accesso. Fu distrutto nel 1341 durante la guerra di successione di Bretagna e ricostruito alla fine del XIV secolo.

Il castello di keriolet sorge sulle alture del fiume Moros presso Concarneau. Rilevante l’architettura delle sue facciate e coperture, cosi per la sua sala delle guardie, il suo grande camino e le sue vetrate. Nel 1984 diventa monumento storico. Anche il Castello di Suscino diventa monumento storico e viene così salvato e restaurato negli anni 60. Costruito nel XIII secolo è una fortezza imponente circondata da un fossato. Il castello di Fourgeres è la più grande fortezza d’Europa lo abbiamo visto solo da lontano ma è proprio imponente. Da lontano abbiamo visto il castello di Turpault che però nonostante l’aspetto è un’abitazione costruita per un magnate dell’industria.

France has many castles, the best known are those of the Loire basin but, even in Brittany there are several castles perhaps less frequented but no less fascinating. We have visited some of them.

Bienassis which means well placed and protected. Built in pink sandstone, it is surrounded by a moat and on the back there is a beautiful French garden. Fort La Latte is a beautiful 13th century castle with a double drawbridge located right on a cliff overlooking the ocean. It was transformed into a fortress in the 1600s to defend the coasts. The castle-fortress easily allowed to dominate the surrounding area and was equipped with formidable, as well as impregnable, defenses such as, for example, an autonomous foundry for the construction of cannonballs. The castle of Hunaudaye was built in 1220 you can see the four towers on the corners of the building surrounded by a large moat and a drawbridge for access. It was destroyed in 1341 during the War of the Brittany Succession and rebuilt at the end of the 14th century.

Keriolet Castle stands on the heights of the Moros River near Concarneau. The architecture of its facades and roofs is relevant, as is its guard room, its large fireplace and its windows. In 1984 it became a historical monument. The Castle of Suscino also became a historical monument and was thus saved and restored in the 1960s. Built in the 13th century, it is an imposing fortress surrounded by a moat. Fourgeres Castle is the largest fortress in Europe we have only seen from afar but it is really impressive. From afar we saw the Turpault castle which, despite its appearance, is a house built for an industry tycoon.
