E’ all’età di 40 anni che l’abate Fouré comincerà a scolpire le rocce sulla riva di una delle più prominenti tratti di costa della Bretagna tra l’estuario della Rance e la baia di Mont-Saint-Michel.
Nel 1870, una malattia ha ridotto in effetti il giovane rettore al silenzio: divenne sordomuto. L’abate Fouré si ritirò nella parrocchia di Rotheneuf. Appassionato di scultura ha scelto di parlare adesso con la pietra. Giorno dopo giorno, per 25 anni, racconta la leggendaria storia di una famiglia di pirati che infuriava qui dal 16° secolo alla Rivoluzione: quella di Rotheneuf.
Dal suo lavoro quotidiano, instancabile nasce un bassorilievo di circa 500 metri quadrati: 300 personaggi scolpiti nel granito a prezzo di duro lavoro.

It was at the age of 40 that Abbot Fouré began sculpting the rocks on the shore of one of the most prominent stretches of coast in Brittany between the Rance estuary and the Mont-Saint-Michel bay.
In 1870, an illness effectively reduced the young rector to silence: he became deaf and dumb. Abbot Fouré retired to the parish of Rotheneuf. He is passionate about sculpture and he has chosen to speak now with stone. Day after day, for 25 years, he tells the legendary story of a family of pirates that raged here from the 16th century to the Revolution: that of Rotheneuf.
From his daily, tireless work, a bas-relief of about 500 square meters is born: 300 characters carved in granite at the cost of hard work.
