Molto belle le città Normanne con palazzi e chiese monumentali di pregio architettonico. Cito alcune come Coutance con i sui bei giardini, Bayeux famosa per l’arazzo della regina Matilde un ricamo con fili di lana su tela di lino, pensate lungo 70 metri ed alto 50 cm. che narra la conquista dell’inghilterra da parte di Guglielmo di Normandia. E poi Caen capoluogo della bassa Normandia con le sue abbazie, castelli e chiese e palazzi. Ancorata al passato con il Memoriale che ricorda che il modo migliore per evitare la guerra è dare basi forti alla pace. Al museo del merletto abbiamo ammirato dei lavori straordinari. Honfler ci ha veramente conquistato con il vecchio porto, le case , i colori, le chiese con i tetti a scandole e tanta gente. Le citta delle falesie Etretat, Fecamp con il palazzo Benedettino, Ste Honorine des Pertes, Port en Bessin Huppain, Yport sorte sui varchi aperti dai fiumi sulle falesie.

Carentan è vicina alla Baia di Veys, nel Cotentin, che è un estuario dove si ricongiungono i quattro principali fiumi del parco: Aure, la Vire, la Taute e la Douve. Nei 19° secolo dei canali sono stati realizzati per raccogliere il flusso disordinato dei fiumi.

Storicamente, Pont-Audemer è rinomata per la qualità delle sue pelli, anche utilizzate nell’esercito di Guglielmo il Conquistatore, che venivano sciacquate nei canali che scorrono fra le case a graticcio. Spesso chiamata la Piccola Venezia della Normandia, Pont Audemer ha mantenuto un fascino molto speciale, una miscela di corsi d’acqua, strade, edifici e case borghesi a graticcio, che possono essere scoperte seguendo il centro storico: un tuffo in pieno medioevo fra ponti in pietra e i riflessi dell’acqua sulle facciate delle case, un vero borgo caratteristico e incantevole.

Dominata dalla sagoma imponente dell’emblematico castello di Gaillard, la cittadina di Les Andelys, composta di due quartieri un tempo ben distinti, il Petit Andely e il Grand Andely, si trova in uno dei luoghi più belli di tutta la valle della Senna. Costruita nel 1196 – in un anno solo! – da Riccardo Cuor di Leone, duca di Normandia e re d’Inghilterra, al fine di controllare la valle e proteggere la città di Rouen dagli assalti di Filippo Augusto, re di Francia, l’impressionante fortezza medievale offre, dalle sue rovine abbarbicate sulla rocca, un magnifico panorama sui meandri della Senna, fiancheggiati da falesie calcaree, e sulla pittoresca sponda del Petit Andely. La visita dei luoghi permette inoltre di andare alla scoperta della corte bassa e di quella alta in cui sorge il grande torrione, oltre che della storia della fortezza, in cui spiccano il celebre assedio e la presa del castello da parte di Filippo Augusto nel 1203-1204, che segnò la successiva annessione della Normandia alla Francia. Bella anche la collegiata di Notre Dame, nel quartiere del Grand Andely, un bellissimo edificio di stile gotico fiammeggiante e rinascimentale che custodisce splendide vetrate del XVI secolo, una Deposizione e una cassa d’organo rinascimentale in legno scolpito.

E come sempre è solo un piccolissimo assaggio delle bellezze della Normandia.

Carentan is close to Veys Bay, in Cotentin, which is an estuary where the four main rivers of the park meet: Aure, Vire, Taute and Douve. In the 19th century, canals were built to collect the disordered flow of rivers.

Historically, Pont-Audemer is renowned for the quality of its leathers, also used in the army of William the Conqueror, which were rinsed in the canals that run between the half-timbered houses. Often called the Little Venice of Normandy, Pont Audemer has retained a very special charm, a mixture of waterways, streets, buildings and half-timbered bourgeois houses, which can be discovered by following the historic center: a dip in the middle of the Middle Ages between bridges in stone and the reflections of the water on the facades of the houses, a real characteristic and enchanting village.

Dominated by the imposing silhouette of the emblematic castle of Gaillard, the town of Les Andelys, made up of two once distinct neighborhoods, Petit Andely and Grand Andely, is located in one of the most beautiful places in the entire Seine valley. Built in 1196 - in just one year! - by Richard the Lionheart, Duke of Normandy and King of England, in order to control the valley and protect the city of Rouen from the assaults of Philip Augustus, King of France, the impressive medieval fortress offers, from its ruins perched on the rocca, a magnificent panorama over the meanders of the Seine, flanked by limestone cliffs, and on the picturesque bank of the Petit Andely. The visit of the places also allows you to go to the discovery of the lower court and the high one in which the great tower stands, as well as the history of the fortress, in which the famous siege and the capture of the castle by Philip Augustus in 1203- 1204, which marked the subsequent annexation of Normandy to France. Also beautiful is the collegiate church of Notre Dame, in the Grand Andely district, a beautiful flamboyant Gothic and Renaissance style building that houses splendid 16th century stained glass windows, a Deposition and a Renaissance organ case in carved wood.

And as always it is only a very small taste of the beauties of Normandy.
